Most people say “A surf shop on the Great Lakes? What? There’s no surf on the Lakes!” I’m sure the sailors of the Edmund Fitzgerald would have disagreed. Don’t forget, these lakes have sunk some pretty big ships and can be quite intimidating even to the seasoned surfer. The wind driven waves here in Michigan can get pretty gnarly. But besides the waves, the still calm waters are another beautiful feature of our great state of resources. Michigan’s rivers, inland lakes and all that surrounds them are an incredible gift to us that live here. How lucky we are to have so many great places to explore!

After many years of studying places, products, procedures, cool peeps and all that is exhilarating, we decided to share and help educate like minded amigo’s on these incredible board sports. Great Lakes Surf is an expansion of an existing company, Great Lakes Kiteboarding which has been in business for over 10 years. We have been riding the Great Lakes for 20 years and teaching for 15. Our focus is to provide quality lessons and gear for Kiteboarding, Stand Up Paddle Boarding, Skating, Snowboarding and Snow Kiting.
